They might never have understood the true nature of what they chose, but they did so for reasons, and I think those reasons were fully explained by the writer. In the case of the Dewitts, essentially suicide, but with the belief that it was for good. The Dewitts and the Luteces, even though in position to make any reality they wish true, chose what they chose. We as a species know well enough that we don't act rationally, and that we have emotions that affect our choices. I think this is a story about human existence, understanding our place in the universe, and a little bit about human nature. You will NEVER make a time travel or alternate reality based story that 100% makes sense by human standards. Regarding the narrative - The problem with it is that we're dealing with these "quantum infinite realities" which is pretty difficult to understand, and even more difficult to write a coherent story about. Rosalind Lutece seemed convinced that it was pointless to try as well. Perhaps even the characters themselves didn't fully understand that it is rather impossible to wipe away a person's existence from infinite universes, but I guess that didn't stop them from trying. She can still visit universes where the nullification hasn't taken place yet, still see Booker alive, and Comstock, and even versions of herself that faded from existence at the point of Comstock's nullification. Yes, she did nullify the existence of all Comstocks in a way, but that really won't prevent him from existing. Remember that we're talking infinite realities here. It's quite possible she saw her revenge, and cared only for that, not realizing her powers couldn't keep her safe from every threat.Īnd regarding how she revisited Columbia even though she and Booker supposedly wiped Comstock from reality - Well, to answer that, she both did and didn't wipe out Comstock. She doesn't constantly check the infinity like a computer, she's a human and still quite vulnerable. Just because you suddenly know every outcome of every move from this point onwards doesn't mean the damage hasn't already been done. Every choice you've made up to that point has already helped determine your final outcome. Regarding Elizabeth's death by the Big Daddy and why she couldn't prevent it - Imagine in chess, that halfway through a game, suddenly you knew every choice, and where it would lead you. But she won't always see what comes after the outcome if she doesn't choose to. She sees an outcome, and she can choose it. As such, she will unconsciously discard many possible realities, and be drawn to realities she prefers, such as the Paris heaven, or a reality in which the last Comstock is subject to her revenge. But infinite is a large number, much more than the a human can comprehend. So, officially, her power is that she can see and visit an infinite number of realities. She can see any future and what choices allows her to reach that future. She described her power as being a form of wish fulfillment. Regarding Elizabeth's powers - Remember, Elizabeth with her powers isn't a god, immortal, or infallible. That's like saying if Jeremiah Fink had a very enormous business rival whom half of Columbia favour his products instead, then for the convenience of Bioshock Infinite, his presence was made non-existant.Īlso, the Pair Bond was retconned to be 'The Lion with a Thorn in its Paw' instead of Lot 255, a formula that was implied in BS2 that it worked, but was proven ineffective at the end of BaSEp2 by Suchong. I don't get how Sofia Lamb suddenly popped into the lore's existance as Ryan's big political opponent and then all traces of her existance in BS1 conveniently disappeared. As if BaS ignores BS2's backstory entiely (except that Dionysus Park PA in Ep1, but I feel that is an easter egg by Irrational because it would be mean not to acknowledge BS2 entirely) It could not be Eleanor since they look absolutley nothing alike.Īs for my views on BS2 being non-canon (I do think BS2 is actually decent and fun to play) if Sofia Lamb or any other BS2-only character was an enormous influence over the citizens of Rapture, they would have at least had a mention in the two DLCs. Payday was asking if Sally was 'the girl from Bioshock 2' it was very vauge since there are many girls in BS2. Originally posted by Dobian:How does BaS render BS2 non-canon? Anyway, the little sister to the Big Daddy in BS2 was Sofia Lamb's daughter.
